 Our pastor

Alexandra Stewart Hutson

She started as our pastor on April 1
after preaching on Good Friday, Easter

The Rev. Alexandra Stewart Hutson is Swift Presbyterian Church’s pastor. She began her duties April 1.

The terms of call received the congregation’s OK at a special meeting on Feb. 18.

Alexandra has filled our pulpit several times before and she led worship on Good Friday and Easter Sunday as pulpit supply minister.

A few hours after the vote of approval, she posted this on Facebook: “A weekend full of excitement! I am thrilled to announce that I have accepted a call and today the congregation of Swift Presbyterian Church voted for me to be their next pastor.

“This has truly been the biggest curveball that I never expected but such a huge blessing. After supply preaching for Swift several times over the past few months, I felt a call that was undeniable. Jacob Hutson, Elsie and I are grateful and cannot wait to see where this next adventure takes us.”

Alexandra was born in Amory, Mississippi, in  August 1994. She moved to Tuscaloosa when she was 18 months old and lived there until college.

Alexandra was very active in her youth group at First Presbyterian Church, Tuscaloosa. She served on youth committees in her local presbytery and attended youth conferences at Montreat, North Carolina. It was during this time that Alexandra first felt God’s call into ministry.

Alexandra attended Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee, and graduated in 2016 with a bachelor of arts in religion. While attending college, Alexandra served on the worship committee, student programming board, and was floor representative for two years. She was a member of the Maryville Concert Choir all four years and served as the choir chaplain her senior year. Alexandra also worked as a student intern in youth ministry at New Providence Presbyterian Church in Maryville while in college.

While attending college, she met Jacob Hutson and they were “college sweethearts” for four years. Alexandra and Jacob returned to Maryville after graduation and were married on Dec. 30, 2016, at New Providence Presbyterian Church.

After college, Alexandra attended Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia, where she graduated in 2020 with a master of divinity and a master of arts in practical theology. While at Columbia, Alexandra worked as a seminary service student in the president’s office and in the office of student life. She was also a member of the TWO student organization and served as middler and senior class president. Alexandra was a student intern for three years at Decatur Presbyterian Church, where she worked with children and youth programs, taught adult classes and participated in Sunday worship services.

Alexandra’s first call was as associate pastor at Government Street Presbyterian in Mobile in July 2020. In this role, she planned and implemented all programs for children and youth ministry, worked closely with the Christian education committee to provide faith formation opportunities for families, provided pastoral care, recruited and trained volunteers, participated in short- and long-term planning and was active in worship planning, planning and preaching. After much prayer and discernment, Alexandra left Government Street in August 2023 to serve in the ministry of a full-time mom.

Alexandra and Jacob welcomed Elsie Grace into their family in February 2023. Jacob works remotely as a team support and development specialist with Veryable, based in Dallas, Texas. They also have a golden retriever named Brinley.

Since moving to Spanish Fort, Alexandra has served as a member of the Junior Board for the Presbyterian Home for Children in Talladega. She is also a member of the Junior League of Mobile. Alexandra is currently serving as the chair for the education and spiritual development committee with the Presbytery of South Alabama.

The family plans to move soon to be closer to the church.

Outside of work, Alexandra enjoys taking care of Elsie, spending time with family, Pilates classes, tennis and going to the beach. Alexandra is an extrovert and thrives when she is around people.
