      ►Join us for fellowship time

We invite everyone to join us for fellowship time, immediately after the 10:00 service, in the fellowship hall.

      A note from Pastor Michael . . .

As most of you are aware, the finance committee and session have been working diligently on the 2023 budget. At the session meeting on Monday, Nov. 14, a very difficult decision was made. The position of assistant pastor is being eliminated, effective Feb. 1.

Pastor Jody Beth Melton has served Swift Church faithfully for over 16 years and has been an invaluable part of the ministry team at the church. Personally, I am so very thankful for her leadership during the four months between Pastor Keith’s retirement and my arrival as your interim pastor and I have continued to value her as a colleague in ministry and friend.

We will have a lunch immediately after the 10 o’clock service on Jan. 22 to celebrate her ministry here and to wish her God’s blessings as she continues to serve the Lord.

      Grace and Peace,
      Pastor Michael

      ►Sanctuary flowers

If you would like to place flowers on the chancel to honor or celebrate a loved one or a special occasion or “just because,” please contact Susie Alexander at 251-943-4145 or 217- 246-4051.

      ►Volunteers for worship

Are you willing to serve as an acolyte or as a greeter/usher? Contact Greg McNair, worship elder, at 251-965-1003 or gregmcnair@centurylink.net.

God is good all the time.

      ►Dates to remember ...

      ■ Intercessory prayer group meets each Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the chapel. Everyone is invited.

      ►Advent devotionals

Advent devotionals for this year are available on the table in the fellowship hall. They are from Illustrated Ministry. The booklet is the devotional and the stapled sheets also include pictures for coloring which is a contemplative practice.

      ►Christmas banquet

      Thursday, Dec. 15 • 6 p.m.
      The Gift Horse Restaurant
      209 W. Laurel Ave., Foley

The cost for the buffet is $22 with tax. Everyone will be paying their bill directly, so will be responsible for adding appropriate gratuity. However, even though folks will pay individually, we are still required to provide a minimum head count no later than Thursday, Dec. 9, so adequate food can be prepared just for us. Therefore, please confirm ASAP with Mary McNair by text (251-295-5267) or email (marymcnair@centurylink.net) if you know you are planning to come so she doesn’t have to spend time calling folks. (This dinner will be in place of Butterfly Girls and Guys Night Out monthly dinner.) (NOTE: If canceling after the count has been provided and not able to find anyone else to take your spot, payment will still be required to the restaurant to cover their costs to guarantee the buffet.)

It is hoped that having this year’s banquet being so much more affordable than when going to Wolf Bay Lodge will make it possible for a lot more of our congregation to come. However, if you would like to come but cost is still an issue, an anonymous church member has offered to cover it; just make your reservation with Mary then let one of the pastors know so arrangements can be made, as we don’t want anyone missing out on this special time of fellowship.

      ►Poinsettia orders

Poinsettia orders are being taken in remembrance of or to honor your loved ones. Poinsettias will be displayed in the sanctuary and chapel on Sunday, Dec. 11, through Christmas Eve, and may be taken home after the service.

Please complete the form below and return to the church office by Sunday, Dec. 4.

      ►Advent and Christmas decoration volunteers

We are looking for volunteers to help set up the beautiful Advent mural and to decorate the sanctuary on Tuesday, Nov. 29. Don Aspray will be the lead for the Advent mural and Denise Angle is lead for the decorations. Meet them at the church at 9 a.m. if you would like to help.

      ►From the safety team . . .

The safety team has asked that anyone who is in the fellowship hall, chapel, sanctuary, or annex to please make sure that the doors are completely closed and locked. In all cases, after locking the door, make sure that the door is fully closed.

      ►Interested in membership?

If anyone is interested in joining the church, please let Pastor Michael or Pastor Jody Beth know and we will set a date for a new members class.

      Risk-taking mission and service
      ►Food pantry

The food pantry is open every Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. to serve the community.

This week, we served 52 families and 127 people.

      Intentional faith development
►‘Snacks with Susan and Daryl’ Sunday school class

Susan and Daryl’s class is studying “The Redemption of Scrooge” and meets on Sundays at 9 a.m. in the fellowship hall.

►Adult Sunday school class led by Bill and Catherine

Bill and Catherine’s class meets at 9 a.m. in room 2 in the annex. The class is studying the book of Genesis. Join us.

      Extravagant generosity
      ►Tithes and offerings

Thank you for your generous pledges and ongoing offerings. Your support and commitment to Swift Church is greatly appreciated.

      Prayers and joys
      ►Please let us know . . .

Please call the church or email to notify us of any joys or concerns; birthdays, anniversaries, health issues or family deaths so that we may put it in the weekly emailed announcements for your church family to pray with you or to praise God for your joy. (We don’t publish personal prayer concerns on the website.)

Please pray for all who do not know Jesus,
that they may come to know Him before it is too late.

      — Jennifer Guthrie
