“James says that fervent prayer avails much (James 5:16b). Fervent prayer means we do not quit easily. Fervent prayer means we purposefully spend sufficient time in intercession. Fervent prayer means we cry out to the Father, sometimes in tears, with our hearts and souls.”

— From Experiencing God by Henry Blackaby

■ Our food pantry is open to serve the community on Wednesdays from 10 to 11 a.m.

Mission and service
►Food pantry

Open Wednesdays from 10 to 11 a.m.

This week the food pantry served 88 families, including 320 people.

If you are interested in helping or know of someone who might be interested, please consider getting involved or at least share the opportunity to volunteer with others.

If you have questions or want to volunteer, please contact the church office at 251-943-8367 or email.

The pantry needs egg cartons and plastic grocery bags.

►Seeking nursery helpers

We are looking for men and women of Swift to support our nursery for our 10 a.m. service, two adults each Sunday.

If you are interested in volunteering either once a month or once every two months, please contact co-captains Kathy Menk at 251-518-7966 or Eunice Ray at 251-979-2231 or see them after church.

Thank you for loving and supporting the children of Swift Church.

‘Becoming Like Jesus’
Through May 24

Many of us imagine spiritual growth as a steady climb upward. In reality, the journey of faith is rarely linear. It’s filled with moments of joy and struggle, clarity and confusion — times when we feel close to God and times when we are learning to trust Him again.

Yet through every high and low, Jesus is faithfully shaping us into His image.

In the “Becoming Like Jesus” video study, Matt Chandler walks us through the Beatitudes in Matthew 5, where Jesus describes the surprising qualities that define life in His kingdom.

Poverty in spirit, godly sorrow, meekness, a hunger and thirst for righteousness, mercy, purity of heart, peacemaking, and perseverance in trials — these are not traits we develop overnight. They are formed slowly as the Holy Spirit works in us and as we walk alongside others in faith.

Join us for this six-session study.

►Adult Bible study class, led by Bill and Catherine

Sundays at 9 a.m. in annex room 2

Our Sunday school class is studying of the book of Esther.

This book forms part of the closing story of Old Testament history. It tells the amazing and intriguing tale of how one young Jewish woman and her older cousin saved the exiled Jewish people from extermination at the hands of the Persian Empire.

If you are new to the class, don’t worry about missing previous lessons. As in the rest of the Bible, each verse is almost a lesson in itself. Visitors and new class members are always welcome. We have coffee brewed and take turns bringing pastries.

We look forward to seeing you.
