Fourth Sunday of Easter
Elder of the month: Pate Cardwell
■ Due to COVID-19, we will not have in-person worship on Sunday, May 3. Join us for our online worship at www.swiftchurch.org and on the Swift Presbyterian Church Facebook page and on YouTube. You can watch at 10 a.m. and whenever you choose after that. The Rev. Keith Cardwell will lead worship this Sunday.
■ The Lord’s Supper — We will again be participating in “virtual” communion. You are asked to have bread and cup ready, preferably grape juice or wine and bread or crackers. If you don’t have grape juice/wine, then water will do. At the appropriate time in the service, we will all receive the elements together. Share with family members and ask neighbors to join you or participate online in their own homes.
— 10 a.m. and later —
►Worship service online only

■ National Day of Prayer — Thursday, May 7, is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, designated by the United States Congress, when people are asked “to turn to God in prayer and meditation.” The president is required by law to sign a proclamation each year, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day. Read more about the history of this day in our May newsletter.

■ NEXT SUNDAY, May 10 — We will celebrate Mother’s Day with a virtual cornucopia of pictures that people have taken of their mother over the years. Send one picture — serious, funny, in memory of or with you side by side. Include her name. You may email it to the office at email@example.com or “snail mail” it no later than May 5 so that we will have time to honor them on our Mother’s Day online worship.
Please stay connected to our Swift Church family by:
✔ Praying for your pew partners and our pastors and other worship leaders.
✔ Praying for our church leaders.
✔ Making phone calls to check on those who might be lonely and need to know that you are thinking of them.
|Read devotionals and pray daily |
An online devotional is “Our Daily Bread” at www.odb.org. If you are using an online devotional that you would like to recommend, please send the link to the church office and we may include it in announcements.
Don’t stop reading your Bible and praying for people who provide essential services in grocery stores, sanitation companies and mail and package delivery.
|Online Zoom Bible study |
It’s open to all members and friends
The Thursday morning Bible study began April 16 as an online study, through a tool called Zoom. It can be accessed on a computer or smart phone. We will “meet” Thursdays, 10 to10:40 a.m. We will also send out a weekly email to help keep us connected.
Materials will be your Bible and a study book, Knowing the Bible: Exodus. We are going through Exodus chapter by chapter; an appropriate book to study in these days of what may feel like exile to many of us.
For more information, contact Pastor Jody Beth, 251-213-6625.
The food pantry remains open every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon until further notice. If you, or someone you know, has a need for a food bag that includes a few paper products, please come see us. Thanks to all who have volunteered their time and/or donated money or items to keep our food pantry open.
The Swift food pantry ordered and packed bags of the following items to share with the congregation in this time of crisis: green beans, spaghetti and sauce, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter and jelly, grits, paper towels, and … toilet paper. This is being offered to all members and friends, to keep people from having to go to the store, and the food pantry has said “if your work hours have been cut, you are required to participate!” Contact Pastor Jody Beth, 213-6625 to have a bag dropped off outside your home or work.
Although we are not meeting “in person,” please remember to mail or drop off your tithing and your special offering for “One Great Hour of Sharing” during this time of separation. You can also give online through the secure donation portal linked from our website.
South Baldwin Literacy Council is collecting gently used books for children to build their home libraries. During this time of separation, the book donations can be dropped off at their offices at 21441 Highway 98 E, Foley, AL 36535, or call 251-943-7323 for more information.
■ Upcoming birthdays: May 1 — Polly Frost,; May 2 — Chad Brewer; May 3 — Linda Runtz; May 4 — Candi Barnwell; May 5 — Betty Carneal, Philip Melton, Bryant Sims; May 6 — Landyn Irwin
