►Congratulations to our graduates
We would like to recognize and congratulate the following 2021 graduates:
Jessica Gosa — University of Alabama, bachelor of science in mathematics; continuing at the University of Alabama for master’s degree in secondary education.
Karleigh Neese — Graduated with doctor of pharmacy from Auburn University’s Harrison School of Pharmacy; will be a Publix pharmacist in Baldwin and Mobile counties as well as Northwest Florida area.
Jaycie Sims — Graduated from kindergarten at Magnolia Elementary School; after graduation from high school in 2033, she wants to go to the University of Alabama and be a veterinarian.
Hailey Vanbrimmer — Will graduate from Elberta High School May 17. She played varsity volleyball, basketball, and softball, receiving all-county designation in all three sports. She received both athletic and academic scholarships and will be playing softball for Spring Hill College.
Carson and Connor Waters — Both will graduate from Foley High School on May 18 and both are going to Huntingdon College in Montgomery to participate in the football program while focusing on a degree in business administration.
We will have a video presentation about our grads during in-person worship and online on the church website after the worship service.
As more children drop out as acolyte volunteers, or adults as “time with the children” volunteers, Greg McNair needs your help by offering to be a part of these important endeavors of our worship services. Contact Greg at 251-965-1003 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
►Butterfly Girls/Guys Night Out
Welcome back Butterfly Girls and Guys Night Out!
After our long COVID hiatus, with current health information from the CDC and a decision from our session, we are going to meet in May for our evening fellowship group. All are welcome! It will be this Thursday, May 20, at 6:30 p.m. at Gelato Joe’s, near Winn-Dixie at Michigan Avenue and Commercial Street.
We will continue to have the ladies and men sit at separate tables (or multiple tables, depending on COVID-19 policies).
Our session asks that those who attend understand that sitting together in restaurants does carry a risk and that we are to comply fully with each restaurant’s policy regarding COVID-19. However, when the reservation is being made, Mary McNair will request outdoor seating for better ventilation, but availability cannot be guaranteed.
Mary has been our coordinator in the past, calling folks to remind them, contacting the restaurant for reservations and encouraging people who haven’t come in the past to join us. She is willing to be the point person this first time back, but after that we will be looking for someone else to take over that responsibility.
For May, RSVP to Mary at 251-295-5267. Texting is best and calls are OK, but please leave a voicemail if she doesn't answer. Please contact her as soon as possible, even if you are not sure if you will be able to attend that night, to give us an idea of how many are interested and ready to go out with the group. She will then confirm with folks before giving the restaurant the head count.
►Snacks with Susan and Daryl Sunday school class
Our study of Moses (In the Footsteps of a Reluctant Prophet) continues at 9 a.m. in the fellowship hall.
►Adult Sunday school class led by Cheryl Jensen
Plan to join us at 9 a.m. in room 2 in the annex as we continue our study of the New Testament.
►Online Zoom Bible study
The Thursday morning online group will be taking an extended spring break. Please consider visiting or joining one of the two great Sunday school classes that are offered at 9 a.m. each week.
The youth group will meet this Sunday, May 16, and again May 30, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the church. All youth are welcomed.
Swift Church youth will attend the Montreat Youth Conference June 6–12 in the North Carolina mountains near Asheville. The theme this year is “Called To Connect.”
Those attending from Swift will be Olivia Akins, Zadie Barnwell, Chase Cardwell, McKenzie English, Baylee Thomason, Ella Thomas, Jon Devery Thomas, and Hailey Vanbrimmer.
►Other news of students accomplishments
Olivia Akins was invited and accepted into the National Honor Society at Elberta High School. This year, she competed in discus throwing for the Elberta High School track and field team. She qualified and competed at the state meet in Gulf Shores. She took third place in the state for 5A.
Olivia Akins, Ella Thomas and Baylee Thomason all played golf this year for Elberta High School. They advanced from sectionals and went on to play as a team at sub-state. They did not advance farther then that but they all three shot the lowest score yet on 18 holes.
Jon Devery Thomas was on the Elberta High School football team.
If you know of others who have had outstanding accomplishments this year, please let the office know so that we may feature them next week.
The food pantry will be open May 26 to serve families in our area.
On May 12, we served 17 families, consisting of 33 individuals.
Volunteers are always needed and welcome to help with the food pantry ministry. If you are interested, please contact director Kathy Menk at 251-518-7966.
If you are in financial need from lack of work, medical bills, or other reasons, please contact pastors Keith or Jody Beth for financial assistance. Your generosity to the pastors’ discretionary fund allows us to provide those in need with financial support.
►Warning on email, text messages
If you receive an email or text message that appears to be from Pastor Keith requesting money or one that seems suspicious, please contact Pastor Keith before responding.
Thank you for your generous and ongoing offerings. Your financial support, through checks or online giving through our website, enable Swift Church ministry to continue.
