    Genesis 35:16–18  Luke 2:8–20

    ■ Handbells, chimes and a song written by Rev. Blacklaw.

    ■ The Lord’s Supper will be served. All are invited to the table.

    ■ The Advent murals, painted by Derek Capsis, are in place.

    ■ A Christmas cookie social in the fellowship hall will follow the worship service.

    ►Christmas cookies and fellowship 

    Everyone is invited to the fellowship hall for our Christmas cookie social immediately after the worship service.


    ►Poinsettias for the sanctuary 

    Poinsettia orders are being taken in remembrance of or to honor your loved ones. The potted poinsettias will be displayed in the sanctuary through Christmas Eve, and may be taken home after the service. Please complete this form and return it by today. The plants are $8 each. Printed forms are also available in the church and were included in the emailed and printed weekly announcements..

    ■ Intercessory prayer group meets each Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the chapel.

    ■ Our food pantry is open to serve the community each Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m.

    ■ Finance committee — Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 8 a.m. in annex room 2

    ■ Session meeting — Monday, Dec. 11, at 6:30 p.m. in annex room 2 (This is a week earlier than usual.)

    ■ Christmas banquet

    Thursday, Dec. 14 • 6 p.m.
    The Gift Horse Restaurant
    209 W. Laurel Ave., Foley

    The cost per person is $23.95 plus tax and gratuity, paid at the time of the dinner. Everyone will pay for their own meal at the restaurant, so no money will be collected ahead of time. Reservations must be made by noon on Dec. 7.

    Any requests made after that date will be up to the restaurant to add or to put on a waiting list, in case others cancel on short notice. We have to pay for any reservations made, whether folks show up or not.

    A sign-up sheet will be on the table in the fellowship hall to confirm if you plan to attend. Please double-check the list to be sure if you’re on it to come or to mark off if you attended last year but will not make it this year.

    Mission and service 
    ►Food pantry 

    The food pantry is open every Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. to serve the community.

    This week, we served 46 families and 150 people.

    If you are interested in helping or know of someone who might be interested, please consider getting involved or at least share the opportunity to volunteer with others.

    If you have questions or want to want to volunteer, please contact Al Sprouse (251-744-1944) or Jan Taylor (251-978-6418).

    Faith development 
    ►‘Snacks with Susan and Daryl’ Sunday school class 

    We’ve all seen the movie … we all know the story, but is it possible it relates to the Bible? Christmas Eve, angels, miracles, and the greatest gift of all are woven throughout “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

    Join Snacks with Susan and Daryl at 8 a.m. in annex room 4 through Dec. 31 for a study about a reluctant man’s journey through faith, community, and restoration.

    ►Adult Sunday school class led by Bill and Catherine 

    Join us as we continue our study in the book of Exodus.

    We meet at 8 a.m. in annex room 2.

    ►Youth Sunday school class, led by Sheree Waters 

    Join us as we study the Bible together. The youth Sunday school class meets at 8 a.m. in annex room 3.
